First Letter Sounds – Phonics Game for Kids 5–6
What your child learns
- Hears the first sound in a word
- Links sounds to letters
- Recognizes capital letters
About this game
First Letter Sounds practices one of the most important early reading skills: hearing the first sound in a word and linking it to a letter. Bloo shows a picture, such as a ball, and asks which letter it starts with. Your child chooses from three capital letters. Every question is read aloud, so children who are just starting to read can play on their own. Wrong answers get a friendly "Try again!", which keeps confidence high. This skill, often called initial sound awareness, is part of every phonics program used in schools. At home, play I spy with sounds: I spy something beginning with the sound "b".
